Grades, counts and what you actually use

Grade range matters more than count
A 26-piece set spanning 8B to 2H is more useful than a 40-piece set that repeats the middle grades. Check the range before the number.
Charcoal and graphite do not mix on one page
Charcoal lifts and smears under a graphite pencil. Most sets keep them separate for that reason, and so should the sketchbook.
A light pad is for tracing, not drawing
An A4 light pad transfers a sketch to good paper. It is a production tool, not a drawing surface, and it is the one item here people buy twice.
